Honours year

Time flies, my honours year is about to end in 2 months time. 7 months ago I totally have no idea what a research life would be, feeling excited and concern at the same time. 7 months later, I wish my research life would not end in such a short time.

The main focus of my project is to look at the relationship between the body mass of odontocete (toothed whales) and features that relate to their echo-locating ability on their skull. One of them is the degree of asymmetry of their nares.

It is really interesting seeing different species of odontocetes skulls. Some are so huge that moving them require heavy machines while others are so tiny that one can pick 3 to 4 skulls up without any effort.

Now my project has come to the last but most important bit, analysis and presenting the result. This is also the hardest part since I have to figure out what all these data and graphs mean. At the moment, I seems to get stuck in getting any meaning from all the graphs that I have. It seems the only solution is to read more and hopefully my supervisor will give me some hints...

Wish me luck ! and hopefully I could get a 1st class honours and continue to PhD....ahhhh that would be my next aim !

yea keep updating a blog is hard, super hard. esp for people like me, lazy but busy.
so i'm now kind of giving up this thing...
hahaa but it's good to write once for a while :)

honours had started and it's quite busy but still i enjoy it a lot ! it's interesting and get to have to chance to do a research project on your own !

Sampling

Been sampling in Marino Rocks for a few times in these past few weeks.
The interesting of sampling is you may come up with something very interesting, but usually they are outside your quadrat or not the spp. that you are dealing with.
This is from my latest sampling trip, added some of my own interpretation

I have to make it clear that I DO NOT put them together !! they are already stacking like this when I found them, just outside the quadrat that we were about to count :D lovely !! LOL !

And we also found something that look like a crab shell but it was soft !! it may be bones of other species ! who knows !!

So next time when you walk along the beach, look around your feet, you may find something very interesting !! ;)

Septemeber

It's September already ! Students in HK should have started their new semester, but now I'm in the middle of my 2nd semester....
Soon it will be mid-sem break and it's time for field trips again !
Talking about field trips, I do like them, coz I can't get to go somewhere that usually people won't go, esp tourists. These are the experience that I can't buy !! On the other hand, these trips usually takes up most of my holiday/ breaks, so when my friends are all having fun and traveling all around Aus, I will be stuck in the same state. Whats more is there is always a report after these camps, still I like going to field trips :)

This is my last semester for my undergraduate degree, hopefully I will be able to get into Honours degree next year. I once dream to be a car racer and a dolphins trainer, the first one is impossible since I am not rich at all. As for the 2nd one, it would be better to protect them rather than teaching them to play tricks in a tiny pool. So I think my career will be in trying to understand how the world works (at least part of the world) and find a way to protect it before it is too late. 

So got to work hard !! :)
